Hi everyone! Dr. Liz here. Sleep specialist, hypnosis specialist, psychotherapist. A question I get is – if I wake up early, should I stay in bed until it’s my like regular time to wake up?
Now, what I tell people is that, as a sleep specialist, we hardly ever recommend that you hang out in bed doing nothing. Ever. If it’s in the middle of the night and you’re waking up then we say, wait 15-20 minutes.
If you’re still awake, go ahead and get out of bed and do something else. If it’s early morning, we say well if you’re waking up for the day, sometimes it takes a little bit to figure that out, but sometimes you wake up like wide awake and you’re like “I’m awake for the day”, go ahead and get up, do something with a little extra time that maybe you wouldn’t normally have time to do.
Maybe you do a little exercise. Maybe you meditate or journal or do something like that some art. Maybe you listen to a podcast.
Go ahead and get up for the day. You could start working. That’s another one people like to do, so go ahead and get out of bed if you’re awake for the day within about 10 minutes or so.
Alright, that’s my tip for better sleep, I’ll talk to you soon.
