This is Dr Liz here. These are not affirmations. These are helpful autopilots that could potentially be helpful to you. Helpful autopilots are realistic, something you truly believe and come from your values, so I encourage you to make your own, but sometimes people just need to hear some to get started.
The concept comes from A Path Through the Jungle by Professor Steve Peters, a fantastic book that I encourage everyone to read or listen to the episodes I’ve done about it on the podcast. Now a gong is going to sound and we’ll start the helpful autopilots.
You can listen to these anytime, anywhere, while you’re driving, while you’re walking, while you’re doing something else. There’s no relaxation induction. This is not a hypnosis. These are simply statements that may resonate with you at certain points in time. Here we go.
- Life may not run the way I want it to, and when it doesn’t, I’ll be able to deal with any consequences.
- Just because I want something to happen doesn’t mean that it will happen.
- Not everything will go the way that I want it to, but nearly everything will work out in the end.
- This situation may not be important in a week’s time.
- Learning to accept reality and then working with it can be very constructive.
- Setting off each day in human mode will help me to work with reality.
- Adult humans can deal with almost anything in life.
- Not everyone will understand me. I can only do my best.
- In life, everything will pass.
- Not everybody’s opinion matters. Opinions are not facts.
- Reflection is a great promoter of change.
- I can always create my own sunshine.
- People are unlikely to change, but I can change my approach towards them.
- Sometimes the bad guys win, but there will always be good times ahead. There are always good people around.
- This is not an emergency. I can slow down and think clearly about what I need.
- I don’t have to be perfect to be okay. I can tolerate being imperfect and making mistakes.
- It’s okay to make mistakes. I can handle being wrong sometimes.
- I’m ready to move on now. I’ve done the best I can. It’s okay to end a chapter and start a new one.
- I have to take risks in order to be free. I’m willing to take this risk.
- I can tolerate my fear of regret.
- I tolerate ambiguity in my life.
- I reduce my anxiety by reducing my thoughts of danger.
- I have a gift of seeing many paths and perspectives. It’s okay to choose one.
- I can learn more beneficial thinking.
- I can write out my doubts. I believe in myself. I’m inventive.
- I can be flexible in my thinking.
- I feel better when I take good care of myself.
- I can ease off. I can learn how to cope better.
- I believe in my resilience.
- I can see the positive. I can find joy, peace or comfort in small moments.
- It may be difficult, but I can sort it out.
- I have a good, curious mind.
- I can have a positive influence on others.
- Life has many flavors.
- Choosing is part of life.
- Things changed before and they will change again, and I can handle it.
- Imperfect equals interesting.
- Not everything will go the way I want it to. Things may not get better, but I can manage it.
- Not everyone will understand me. I can only do my best. It isn’t great, but it’s not the end of the world.
- I can use adaptive thinking.
- I am more than this body. I am a spiritual being, perfect and whole.
- My bad times are just lessons that my soul chose to have this physical experience.
- I always find ways to survive even the most difficult circumstances.
- Every single moment I am creating rapid, positive results that magically defy anyone else’s limitations of me and my healing. I am a miracle and as such, I create my own miracles every day.
