Eye Surgery Macular Pucker Vitrectomy 1 year later with Dr Liz
Transcript
hey everyone Dr Liz here. I don’t have any eye makeup on I feel a little bit like Pamela Anderson here because I have another infection in my right eye, a staff infection so no can do with the makeup. You could like make it worse pass it to the other eye all kinds of stuff.
I also have a different background if you’re noticing because I moved from South Florida to North Florida so different office different background. It’s a home office right now. So I thought I would give a one-year update after my macular pucker surgery. So I had the surgery February 13th 2024 and we’re at February 25th 2025 so it’s one year later.
My vision is 2020 in that eye. There’s no waviness okay it is much improved from pre-surgery. Actually it wasn’t that bad pre-surgery but I definitely had the like wavy lines. But it tests at 20/20 and most days I would say that’s accurate. There’s some days that I’m like I don’t know about that 20/25 20/30 let’s say but most days that’s true.
If my eye pressure increases then the vision decreases. So that happens with eye pressure. Like eye pressure goes up and your vision goes down so occasionally that has happened. But right now it’s improved it’s sitting at 20/20. It’s a great result surgically. I am still on eye pressure drops. This is when I have a wean down to once a day so that’s good and I am actually hoping to wean off completely. So I still think it’s classified as like postsurgical high eye pressure versus glaucoma would be the term they would use for it. Let’s say I couldn’t get off of them and I had to be on them you know years or the rest of my life or something that would be glaucoma.
That’s a risk here with eye surgery that I didn’t really know about before the eye surgery. I think I still would have done the eye surgery okay honestly um because the vision had deteriorated in that eye um so much really that I was noticing it that it was very difficult for me to read. And it’s no longer difficult for me to read now because of the eye drops I’m on for pressure which is bromonine or something I know I’m saying it wrong so you can all Google that.
I have gotten more eye infections in that eye so I’ve had several eye infections and this is a staff infection now who knows where I picked it up um maybe for moving boxes cuz I recently moved.
My daughter has been in and out of the Mayo Clinic for some evaluation for some medical stuff. Maybe I picked it up there I don’t know but um those are obviously extra eye drops to treat a staff infection and lots of laundry okay like um hand towels and face towels and pillowcases and all that good stuff that has to be changed out daily. So um so yeah that’s a side effect of being on those eye drops for pressure for high eye pressure.
But right now my pressure is great and again I’m hoping to be off of them completely within the next three months or so so we’ll reduce them even further. They used to be several times a day now they’re just once a day that’s it so I would say I had a good result.
You have to make your own decision but it has been a journey for me for sure and again I think I would have done the surgery, I would have made the same decision, I would do the surgery again even though this year has been uh eye drops on almost all almost every day all year, some kind of eye drops. But it’s manageable is how I see that.
All right that’s it for the update. Feel free to ask a question below. I am not a medical doctor. I cannot give you medical advice but my PhD is in Clinical Psychology so I do a lot of hypnosis to reduce any kind of side effects and have better healing after eye surgery. I have one on my website if you want to download that one it’s wonderful. I made it for myself and it was so good I actually uh re-recorded it professionally so that I could sell that hypnosis.
It’s a good one particularly if you’re really scared. I think it has a very calming effect on people and the language in it is actually medical language approved by my opthalmologist so um so yeah it’s a good one anyway that’s it all right. I hope you’re all doing well. Peace.
