Increase Productivity with a Simple To-Do List

Transcript

I’m going to just give a productivity tip today because I have told this to a lot of people and it seems to really help them. A lot of people will make a list that’s in a book and a planner and then it’s really hard to see that list because you have to open the planner or you open the book. I do have a planner. I use a dream book planner where I overview the week and things that I want to do.

Pin 2 Increase Productivity with a Simple To-Do List

I do some of my habit changes there like: drinking more water, and making sure I meditate; for those types of things, I use my planner, But for my daily tasks, I use a little list. You can buy these [cardstocks] at Michael’s or Joann’s or sometimes any scrapbooking paper store.

I have not found them easily on Amazon but they’re cardstock. They’re 4 ½ x 7 type and they make different sets. They’re basically for scrapbooking. It’s like pretty paper which I actually don’t use that side of the paper but it’s just sort of nice to look at. I use the blank side of the paper and I will do my weekly plans like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: the whole week on one side with generally what do I need to get done.

Example:

Monday

  • 9 am to 12: Podcast interview
  • Calls I need to make
  • 12:30: Go to Home Depot
  • Exercise goals (e.g weights, yoga, pilates, walking
  • Do a homework check (for my daughter)

On the right side, I’ll do some of the tasks that I need to do that are sort of floating like calls I need to make. Often this side will be completely full too. I often put exercise goals on that day so this is like weights, yoga, pilates, walking, whatever you want to put on there.

I keep this right on my table and sometimes I even carry it around with me back and forth to work so that I can easily see what I need to get done that week. This is like odd things that come up.

Let’s say that you’re supposed to provide cupcakes to your son’s kindergarten class. You would put that on the day so that you can easily see it in the morning. I’ll often either have my breakfast or my tea right there at my table and I’ll take a look at this and then I’ll mark things off as they get done so that it’s like a quick plan.

Another thing you can put on that plan and often what I recommend to people is the five-minute plan which is:

  1. How do I want to feel today? You can set the goal there and;
  2. What do I need to do to feel that way?

I just thought I’d give that quick tip for productivity because I have used that system for years and it really works for me. Again, I have a dream book planner which I highly recommend. I do more overall reaching goals in that but this one, my task list, I make it small so that I can see everything right there. Sometimes I’ll redo the list near the end of the week so Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I’ll have things I need to get done on those days so I’ll just make a new list. It’s an inexpensive way to just keep track of what needs to get done day by day.
