Hypnosis for Weight Loss vs GLP-1’s
Hypnosis helps you with changing eating patterns, eating mindfully, body acceptance, and feeling positive about yourself no matter your shape and size.
Common GLP-1s on the market now:
- Exenatide (Byetta, Bydureon)
- Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda)
- Albiglutide (Trulicity)
- Dulaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy)
- Lixisenatide (Adlyxin)
- Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
Hypnosis can change your brain chemistry, but not in the same way as GLP-1’s. One of the biggest differences that people report on GLP-1’s like Wegovy or Ozempic is that the “food chatter” or “food noise” stops. It often feels like a miracle to them.
Some food noise helps us know when to eat, when our body needs nutrition. Sometimes people end up malnourished on a GLP-1. With hypnosis, we decrease the food noise or food chatter in between meals but don’t stop it completely. Instead, you learn to recognize when it’s a signal to eat vs a signal of boredom or emotional distress for example (sometimes it’s a very specific cue for some people).
Even if you’ve decided to go on a GLP-1, hypnosis is a wonderful complement to help you change your eating patterns so that you don’t gain the weight back when you go off of the GLP-1.
Sometimes there are delays or shortages of medication as well. Or insurance stops covering one type, like Wegovy, but you don’t have approval for the new type, like Trulicity.
Hypnosis is going to help you manage the in-between so that you don’t suddenly eat your face off and gain 15 lbs back in one month waiting for the pre-approval of the next medication insurance decided is ok for you.
I don’t want to go on a GLP-1. I’m scared of the side-effects!
Some people don’t want to go on a GLP-1 at all. They’re scared of the side-effects like nausea, bowel obstruction, or losing fat from an area that’s not meant to be (I knew someone who lost fat from the ball of her foot and now has to have injections the rest of her life to feel ok just standing or walking).
Hypnosis for weight loss is a great option with decades long tradition of success.
I can’t afford a GLP-1
The GLP-1s can be very expensive if your insurance doesn’t cover the cost – hundreds of dollars a month with a 6 month minimum typically recommended. Hypnosis is not cheap either. I typically work with someone 5-10 sessions. Since I’m private pay, that can be $1,000 or so (exact rates vary depending on if you’re reading this 5 years from now!) spread out over several months. Those sessions are recorded and you can keep them and listen to them forever, whenever you need a boost. You don’t have to go back on a medication at significant cost later because you gained the weight back.
If you feel yourself slipping, you put on one of your hypnosis for weight loss recordings and get back on track quickly.
If you feel like your eating has a more extensive emotional base, consider Core Healing.
But if not, then weekly or semi-weekly (every two weeks) sessions of hypnosis for weight loss is very effective.
Hypnosis is a supportive process. If changing eating patterns and decreasing overeating nd binging results in weight loss, which it often does, and helps you feel better about yourself then fantastic. It’s a win-win. But even better is knowing that your patterns have truly changed to support the maintenance of your new weight and that you have a tool that you can use at any time to help you.
