Meditation for Neurodivergent Minds
I’m taking a meditation teacher training right now with Susan Piver. I’ve taught meditation one on one for years. But thought it’s finally time to get officially certified. It’s a three month program where we have to show up live for the training every week. We’re into month two and so far neurodivergence has not been mentioned.
This is so surprising to me. So I’m sending two good resources for those of you with neurodivergent minds who really WANT to meditate. But find it REALLY difficult to.
All kinds of people feel that way though, not just those with ND minds. And as my meditation teacher says, “Sit and Trust the practice.”
I would add to that, “Look for meditation solutions that work for you. Work with your mind, not against it.”
Here’s a really good article about meditating for the neurodivergent by Dr. Megan Anna Neff.

The only thing she really left out is that meditation is not just for self-improvement in a selfish sense – more focus, more productivity (Radio Head’s song “Fitter Happier” is running through my head at this moment).
It’s really so that you can go out into the world and help others and/or be with others as a better person – in relationship, connected, disciplined, generous (of self), skillful with the expression of anger (rather than not angry).
The second resource is meditation teacher, Jeff Warren. I’ve followed him for close to 10 years. He is public about his ADD and bipolar disorder. And gives so many resources around mediation for the ND and comes from that perspective.
